Everything Action Theater: Gotham Pilot
Fall TV season is here and Fox kicked things off with the first major new show of the season, Gotham. The highly anticipated Batman prequel finds a rookie Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) working with his gruff, veteran partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) who are drawn into possibly the biggest crime in Gotham City history, the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. There’s tons of characters who will grown into the various supervillains of the Batman universe, like Edward Nygma, Oswald Cobblepot, Ivy Pepper and Selina Kyle while gangsters like Carmine Falcone and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) run the city. There’s also characters like Renee Montoya and the future Mrs. Jim Gordon, Barbara Keene. The pilot didn’t really blow me away and I think it would, obviously, have been cooler if it was set in the “present day” Batman universe like the critically acclaimed GCPD comic series, where you get brief glimpses of Batman while the cops of the GCPD deal with street crime. I’ll give it a few episodes to get going and we’ll see if it can rise in the ranks of all the comic shows this season. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the first episode below, courtesy of Hulu.
