Everything Action Theater: Death Ship (1980)
Recently celebrating its 45th anniversary, you can watch the cult classic horror movie Death Ship in the latest Everything Action Theater. Released in March 1980, the movie stars Richard Crenna, George Kennedy, Nick Mancuso, Sally Ann Howes, Kate Reid, Victoria Burgoyne, and Saul Rubinek. A cruise ship on the way to the Caribbean is struck by a mysterious black freighter and causes the cruise ship to sink, killing most of the passengers and crew. The few survivors seek refuge on the freighter, unaware its the same boat that sunk them, and discover that it was a Nazi prison ship and the ghosts of the crew and inmates still haunt the vessel. As the supernatural forces of the “Death Ship” pick off the survivors one by one, the rest try to figure out some way to escape. The movie was the only horror movie directed by Alvin Rakoff, who directed mostly dramas and thrillers throughout the 60s and 70s. Death Ship didn’t do well critically or financially when it opened, but it eventually became a cult classic, probably helped by its killer poster/VHS box art.
