This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head back to 1979 and discuss the team-up of JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg, 2011’s Super 8 for its 15th anniversary, and with a new Spielberg alien movie in theaters, Disclosure Day.
Inspired by movies like E.T., The Goonies, and Stand By Me, Super 8 follows a group of friends filming a zombie movie in their small Ohio town. While filming a scene at the local train station, the group witnesses a massive train crash and eventually learns that an alien has escaped and is wreaking havoc on the town while the Air Force tries to cover everything up. Zach and Chris discuss whether the alien is actually misunderstood or really evil, how the movie melds the styles and themes of Abrams and Spielberg, Kyle Chandler being a supercop, how horrific the death of Joe’s (Joel Courtney) mother at the steel mill was, and more.
You can rent/buy Super 8 from Amazon or Apple TV. Next week, we’re trying to survive the zombie apocalypse of George A. Romero’s classic Day of the Dead, which is getting a new 4K release.
