This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris strap on some armor and discuss 2004’s Troy as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey hits theaters.
Loosely based on Homer’s epic poem, The Iliad, Troy stars Brad Pitt as Achilles, Ancient Greece’s deadliest warrior. Driven by the promise of eternal glory, he joins the war against Troy led by the power-hungry Agamemnon (Brian Cox), who wants to expand his control to the neighboring kingdom. Eric Bana co-stars as Hector, Troy’s best warrior and an expert tactician whose brother Paris (Orlando Bloom) kicked off the entire war by sneaking the beautiful Helen (Diane Kruger) away from her husband, Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson). Zach and Chris discuss Achilles ‘ go-to lunging sword strike, the terrible advice of Troy’s high priest, the seemingly casual nature of ancient warfare, the lack of anything supernatural, and more.
You can watch Troy on YouTube (the TV edit) or Philo, or rent the theatrical or director’s cut from Amazon, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. Next week, we’re getting our Multipass and discussing The Fifth Element, which is returning to theaters for two nights on July 26th and 27th.
