Three new cast members join Alien: Earth: As production on Season 2 of Alien: Earth begins in London, Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell and Jerome Flynn have joined the cast. No character details were revealed. Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Moe Bar-El, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver are returning from Season 1, and Peter Dinklage was previously cast for Season 2.
Spy School series in development at Disney+:Disney is developing a series based on the Spy School books by Stuart Gibbs. Chris Fedak, the creator of Chuck, is writing and executive producing the series along with Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort. The story follows Ben Ripley, who dreams of working for the CIA and discovers that the magnet school he’s recruited to is actually a front for the agency.
Trevor Donovan starring in The Devil’s Train: Trevor Donovan, of Ethan Almighty and When Hope Calls, has signed on to star in the sci-fi action movie The Devil’s Train. Donovan will play Hondo, a Hollywood stuntman who is secretly a time-traveling cowboy looking to rob the treasure-laden Devil’s Train. Jack Hudson was previously cast as the cyborg villain, Blondie. Veteran stuntman Jack Gill is directing the movie.
Several new cast members join The Kellys: Joining Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liam Hemsworth, Geena Davis, Kelsey Asbille, and Abby Elliott in The Kellys are Noomi Rapace, Ron Funches, Michael Biehn, Roland Møller, Laz Alonso, Basil Eidenbenz, and Dan Fogler, all announced as joining the cast this week. Brad Peyton is directing the movie, which follows disgraced cop Jack Kelly as he attempts to rescue his wife Molly when she gets taken hostage by terrorists in an abandoned armory building.
Paul Feig directing Detention for Blumhouse: Coming off the success of The Housemaid, Paul Feig is heading to Blumhouse/Atomic Monster to direct a new horror thriller, Detention. Plot details are being kept under wraps. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is also on board to produce.
Guy Ritchie developing new crime series for Amazon MGM: Guy Ritchie is reteaming with Amazon MGM after Young Sherlock to develop a new modern-day crime series, Capital. The series will explore the modern crime underworld of London, but no other plot details are available. Ritchie will write, direct, and produce the series along with Rob Williams, who created The Witness for Netflix and showran Suspicion for Apple TV.
Free Willy reboot in development: Warner Bros. is looking to reboot the 90s favorite Free Willy with The Russo Brothers producing. Mary-Margaret Kunze and Jade Halley Bartlett have been hired to write the screenplay. Kunze previously worked on Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil, while Bartlett wrote and directed Miller’s Girl. The original film followed a troubled teen who befriends an Orca whale named Willy and tries to return him to the wild.
Task crossing over with Mare of Easttown: HBO’s Task is apparently set in the same universe as Mare of Easttown as Julianne Nicholson is reprising her Emmy-winning role from the latter series, Lori Ross, in Season 2 of Task. Both shows hail from Brad Ingelsby.
Jimmy Tatro cast as Gorilla Grodd in DC Crime: Jimmy Tatro is in talks to co-star in the upcoming Superman spin-off series DC Crime as hyperintelligent ape Gorilla Grodd. Skyler Gisondo stars in the series as Jimmy Olsen, a comic-book take on true-crime docuseries, with Olsen tracing the history and crimes of Grodd.
Jude Law starring as getaway driver in a new action movie: Jude Law is starring in an upcoming, untitled action movie where he will play a getaway driver. Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, who worked with Law on Black Rabbit and The Order, are developing the project.
Nocturne gets a release date on Apple TV: Upcoming drama series Nocturne has gotten a release date from Apple TV, debuting on October 30th. The series is based on the books Lazarus and The Sandman by Lars Kepler and follows Jonah Lynn, played by Liev Schreiber, a former soldier turned homicide detective in Philadelphia. Tired of the rough streets of the city, he moves his family to a small town, but he and his family come under threat from a vicious serial killer, Jurek Walter, played by Stephen Graham. Zazie Beetz co-stars as FBI Agent Saga Bauer, Lynn’s surrogate daughter, who is forced to go head-to-head with Jurek.
John Goodman joins Skeletons: John Goodman has joined the cast of the upcoming horror movie Skeletons, which also stars Brie Larson, Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye and Daithí Ó Haragáin. JT Mollner, director of Strange Darling, is directing the movie, which follows a young boy who begins to suspect that his parents are hiding something about his mother’s true nature.
Deadlock movie in development at Amazon: Based on the novel by James Byrne, Matthew Michael Carnahan is directing an adaptation of Deadlock for Amazon. The novel follows Desmond “Dez” Aloysius Limerick, an ex-operative who has a chance meeting with a reporter that reveals a massive conspiracy. The book is the second in a series, with the first being The Gatekeeper. LA Confidential screenwriter Brian Helgeland is writing the screenplay.
Julia Garner starring in Guilty Creatures for Apple TV: Julia Garner has signed to star in the upcoming Apple TV crime series Guilty Creatures. Supergirl director Craig Gillespie is directing and executive producing the series. The series is based on the true crime novel Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida by Mikita Brottman, and the logline is “delves into the psyche of a torrid romance and subsequent act of murder between two young, adulterous but God-fearing lovers, unraveling their complex lives and the emotional toll of living as killers for 18 years.”
Young Washington sequel in development: After the strong performance of Young Washington last weekend, Angel Studios is developing a sequel. Titled 1776, the sequel will obviously move into the Revolution era and follow George Washington as he leads America to freedom from Britain. Director, producer, and co-writer Jon Erwin announced the project on social media. It’s unclear whether William Franklyn-Miller will return to reprise his role as Washington.
