After nearly three decades, Backyard Baseball is officially back. Playground Productions has released a brand-new version of the beloved sports game, developed by Mega Cat Studios, available now on Steam for PC and Mac.
The reimagined title retains the charm of the original 1997 classic while adding a host of modern features. Players can jump into pick-up games, full league seasons, couch co-op, and new modes like Backyard Bash, Backyard Derby, and the all-new Wiggle Ball. The game also includes 11 remastered stadiums, over 30 playable characters—including fan favorite Pablo Sanchez—expanded character customization, unlockable collectibles, and no microtransactions, with all rewards earned through gameplay.
While the game is currently available on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox versions are now available to wishlist, with Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 releases planned as part of the game’s full console rollout.
Playground Productions also confirmed that online multiplayer is in development and will be added in a future update, allowing players to compete against friends online. The launch marks the first step in the company’s larger vision for a connected “Backyardiverse” centered around the iconic Backyard Sports franchise.
