Musical Montage: Jerry Reed “Eastbound and Down”
Hitting at the height of the trucker/CB radio craze of the late 70’s was the late Hal Needham’s chase classic, Smokey and the Bandit. Burt Reynolds starred as the titular Bandit, trying to deliver a trunk full of beer across state lines while the cops are on his tail and a runaway bride (Sally Field) becomes his co-pilot. The movie needed a theme song as Southern fried as it’s location and luckily co-star Jerry Reed delivered with Eastbound and Down, which was covered by “Cherlene” during Archer’s brilliant Smokey parody last season.
