Musical Montage: Coheed and Cambria “Welcome Home”

Coming out 15 years ago today, on September 9th, 2009, the movie 9 heavily featured “Welcome Home” by Coheed and Cambria in its trailers and soundtrack.  Produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, the movie was a feature-length version of director Shane Acker’s Oscar-nominated short film and followed a group of rag dolls called “Stitchpunks” who find themselves in an apocalyptic world where machines have wiped out humanity.  The movie received mixed reviews and was bombed at the box office when it was released.  Deborah Lurie and Danny Elfman contributed to the score for the movie’s soundtrack, and “Welcome Home” was the only licensed song on the movie’s soundtrack album.  “Welcome Home” was released by Coheed and Cambria four years earlier in 2005, and it was the first single off their album Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness.  The song was also included in Rock Band in 2007 and Madden 06 in 2005.  It was also the main theme for wrestling promotion NXT between June 2012 and February 2014,  Even though it doesn’t have anything related in it, you can check out the music video for “Welcome Home” below.
