The Canadian animated series The Raccoons had a New Wave banger as its end credits theme, “Run With Us”, performed for most of the series by Lisa Lougheed. Created for the CBC by Kevin Gillis, the show follows Bert Raccoon (Len Carlson) and his friends Ralph (Bob Dermer) and Melissa (Linda Feige/Susan Roman), who live in the Evergreen Forest. A greedy aardvark industrialist, Cyril Sneer (Michael Magee), was constantly trying to level the forest for his own personal gain, which Bert and his friends were constantly trying to foil. The series aired in the US on the Disney Channel and featured three specials before the series proper kicked off. While the show had a fairly standard 80s cartoon opening, the end theme was a New Wave pop song, performed by Stephen Lunt for the first season and by Lisa Lougheed for the rest of the series. The show and specials also featured music from Leo Sayer, John Schneider, Rupert Holmes, Dottie West, and more. Lougheed also appeared on the series as Lisa Raccoon, who became a prominent character in Season 5. The song was released to streaming services in April this year to celebrate the show’s 40th anniversary, and it received a cover from Vancouver band Fionn.
