Musical Montage: Misfits “Halloween I & II”
If there’s better songs to close out this spooky month on than Halloween and Halloween II by Misfits, I don’t know what they are. The fifth single released by the band, it was also the first to use their horror themed logo, which itself was inspired by Famous Monsters of Filmland. Halloween was also the last song to include Bobby Steele on guitar for the group before Jerry Only brought in his younger brother Doyle to join the band. The songs were released as single and as part of the band’s 3 Hits from Hell EP and Danzig later recorded a new version of Halloween II with his follow up band, Samhain and other punk and metal bands have covered the songs over the years as well. The songs are basically just pure celebrations of the holiday, with Danzig bringing up the color of the leaves, candy apples, the various costumes and the general fun, spooky vibe of All Hallow’s Eve.
