Amazon Heads to Carnival Row on Labor Day (Trailer)
Amazon continues to push out star-studded, big-budget original series in the on-going streaming war and their latest show, Carnival Row, is arriving on Labor Day weekend. Starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, Carnival Row is set in a Victorian fantasy world where fantastical creatures are forced to flee their home and co-exist in the human world. Delevingne is Vignette Stonemoss, a fairy who fell in love with Bloom’s Rycroft Philostrate, who left her when war broke out. Back in the same city, they rekindle their affair while Philostrate, now a detective, investigates a series of murders that are occurring in the titular Carnival Row, where most of the fantastical creatures have settled in the city. Jared Harris, David Gyasi, Indira Varma, Alice Krige, Anna Rust, and Tamzin Merchant co-star. The series was originally going to be overseen by Guillermo Del Toro but he had to step away because of his crazy movie schedule and director Jon Amiel stepped in to direct the series while René Echevarria and Travis Beacham created the series and are showrunning. It seems interesting, kind of Penny Dreadful mixed with Vertigo’s Fables, but it probably would have been much more interesting if GDT had remained involved. The series drops on August 30th and you can check out the trailer below.
