Mulan Returns in March for the Next Disney Live Action Remake (Trailer)

Missteps like Dumbo aside, with Aladdin and The Lion King making over a billion dollars this year at the worldwide box office, the Disney Live Action remake train is showing no signs of stopping and Mulan returns in March of next year.  Yifei Liu plays Hua Mulan, who disguises herself as a man to keep her ailing father from being forced into battle against an enemy that is invading China from the north.  Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yosan An, Tzi Ma, Gong Li and Jet Li co-star and it’s being directed by Niki Caro.  WIth the aforementioned Aladdin and Lion King remakes, they were essentially the same exact movie as the animated original with maybe a few new little details or plot devices but Mulan seems like the first one to be a much more radical shift, with a much more serious tone than the original animated movie and seemingly leaning into the martial arts/historical epics that some of its co-stars have been in before, like Hero or Crouching Tiger.  The trailer features a new instrumental version of “Reflection” but it’ also unclear if there will be any of the music from Mulan (most importantly “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”) and Eddie Murphy’s Mushu has been replaced with a magical phoenix.  The movie arrives on March 27th next year and you can check out the trailer below.
