Musical Montage: Macho Man Randy Savage “Be A Man”
Forget Taylor Swift and the other exclusives that were released on this past weekend’s Record Store Day, the true treasure was the first-ever vinyl release of Macho Man Randy Savage’s rap album Be a Man, which first debuted in 2003. The album came about when Macho Man met Bill Edwards, the chairman of Big3 Records, and was offered the opportunity to record the album. The record label’s in-house production team, Da Raskulls, wrote and produce the album while Macho’s brother, Lanny Poffo, wrote the lyrics to “My Perfect Friend”, a tribute to Curt “Mr. Perfect” Hennig. The title track, “Be A Man”, was a diss track to Hulk Hogan, who Macho still held a grudge against. The album sold 15,000 copies upon release but has since become a cult classic album for Macho fans. You can listen to “Be A Man” below and, if you managed to snag a vinyl copy of the album this past weekend, let us know.
