Musical Montage: DMX “No Sunshine”

There was a trend in the early 2000s of rappers starring in action movies and DMX was right in the center of it, appearing in Romeo Must Die, Cradle 2 the Grave, and Exit Wounds, the latter of which had his song “No Sunshine” on the soundtrack.  The movie found DMX teaming up with Steven Seagal and uncovering a web of corrupt cops in Detroit, including Bruce McGill and Michael Jai White.  Along with DMX, the movie’s soundtrack also featured NAS, Mack 10, Redman, Ja Rule, Three 6 Mafia, and Trick Daddy, but DMX’s song was the only one released as a single.  As its title implies, “No Sunshine” samples the Bill Withers classic “Ain’t No Sunshine” for its beat and chorus.  “No Sunshine” hit #67 on the Billboard Hot Hip-Hop/R&B chart and the entire album reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 200.  UFC legend Anderson Silva used “No Sunshine” as his entrance music during his time in the Octagon.  The music video features DMX in a cemetery while clips from the movie are featured throughout.  Check it out below.
