Everything Action Theater: Martial Law
We’re talking about Cynthia Rothrock’s team-up with Michelle Yeoh in Yes, Madam! this Friday on the Everything Actioncast but in 1991 Rothrock teamed up with Chad McQueen for Martial Law. Not to be confused with the Sammo Hung TV series, Martial Law saw McQueen and Rothrock playing cops Sean Thompson and Billie Blake, who must use both their police skills and martial arts prowess to take on Dalton Rhodes (David Carradine), a dangerous crime boss smuggling in guns and luxury cars who also happens to be a martial arts master. Philip Tan, Tony Longo, John Fujioka and Professor Toru Tanaka co-starred and the movie was directed by Steve Cohen, who directed several Billy Joel music videos (including “Big Shot” and “You May Be Right”) and also previously worked on The Goonies and Invasion USA. The movie was released direct to video and generated two sequels, Martial Law II: Undercover, where Rothrock teamed up with Jeff Wincott and a loosely connected third film, Mission of Justice, which stars Jeff Wincott, but not as the same character. Vinegar Syndrome put out the first two Martial Law movies on 4K in 2020 but that set seems to be extremely expensive currently, so you can watch Martial Law below thanks to TheArchiveTV on YouTube.
