Musical Montage: D12 “Fight Music”

Coming off their debut album in 2001, D12 paid homage to The Warriors with the music video to their single “Fight Music”.  Led by Eminem, D12 consisted of Proof, Bizarre, Mr. Porter, Kuniva, and Swifty McVay, the hip-hop collective formed in 1996.  Devil’s Night was the group’s debut album, coming out on June 19th, 2001, and “Fight Music” was released as a single in November 2001.  The song doesn’t seem to have made much of an impact on the US charts but in 2004 the group would have massive success with the goofier “My Band” off their second album.  The music video for “Fight Music” features Ice-T in the role of Cyrus from The Warriors, gathering together the “gangs” of music like rock stars, pop icons, rappers, and R&B.  Unlike the movie however, Ice-T singles out D12 for “destroying the music industry” and sets off the other groups to go after them.  There’s a gang that wears presidential masks at one point. a DJ narrating events and everything culminates at Coney Island.  Check out the video below.
