Everything Action Theater: Godzilla vs Destoroyah
Godzilla is joining forces with King Kong this weekend to take on the Skar King in Godzilla x Kong but back in 1995, Godzilla faced one of his powerful and deadly opponents in Godzilla vs Destoroyah. The final movie of the Heisei run of Godzilla movies, Godzilla vs Destoroyah found the King of the Monsters on the brink of a meltdown, which would destroy the Earth’s atmosphere. Trying to figure out a way to stop, or at the very least minimize, Godzilla’s destructive death, a new threat emerges when Destoroyah, a group of mutated crab-like monsters that fuse into a powerful form, begins to attack Japan. Godzilla vs Destoroyah was the final appearance of actress Momoko Kōchi, who reprised her role from the original Gojira and the final film scored by the great Akira Ifukube. However, his music and iconic Godzilla theme would continue to be used, most recently heard in Godzilla Minus One. The movie received positive reviews and performed well in theaters in Japan and it received a video release in the US 4 years later in 1999, one year after 1998’s Godzilla hit theaters.
