Francis Ford Coppola’s Magnum Opus Megalopolis Finally Arrives (Trailer)
Initially conceived in 1977, Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project, Megalopolis, is finally coming sometime this year. Spending $120 million of his own money, Coppola has assembled an all-star cast, led by Adam Driver, for a sci-fi epic set in “New Rome,” a New York Cityesque metropolis that is destroyed in an accidental disaster. Driver plays Cesar Catilina, an architect with the power to manipulate time who wants to rebuild the city as a sustainable utopia while the mayor, Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito) wants to keep the city in its regressive status quo. Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, and Laurence Fishburne co-star. The movie is debuting on May 16th at the Cannes Film Festival and, if it secures distribution, should arrive in theaters later this year. You can check out the trailer for Megalopolis below.
