Musical Montage: Clannad “Forces of Nature”
You probably wouldn’t think of Irish music for a movie from a Hong Kong director featuring anthropomorphic kangaroos. Still, Irish band Clannad brought some Celtic vibes to 1997’s Warriors of Virtue, which arrives on Blu-ray for the first time this week. The movie was created as a concept by four Chinese-American brothers, the Law brothers, who all worked as doctors and had no prior experience in Hollywood or films in general. The movie finds a boy named Ryan transported to the magical world of Tao, where he joins five mystical Warriors of Virtue in a battle to stop the maniacal warlord Komodo (Angus Macfadyen) from taking over both Tao and Earth. The movie was a critical and commercial bomb, but fortunately for Clannad, they had already had prior movie success by providing “I Will Find You” for 1992’s The Last of the Mohicans. They also almost had a song on the Braveheart soundtrack, “Croí Cróga” (“Brave Heart”), but it didn’t make the final cut. There wasn’t a music video for “Forces of Nature,” but you can listen to the song below.
