Musical Montage: White Zombie “Feed the Gods”
Coming out 30 years ago today, Airheads features Adam Sandler, Brendan Fraser, and Steve Buscemi as the fictional rock band The Lone Rangers, and the actual band White Zombie appears in the movie and on the movie’s soundtrack. In a desperate bid to get their demo tape heard by record executives, The Lone Rangers take a radio station hostage and find themselves in a standoff with the police. Outside the station, a police officer, played by Chris Farley, heads to a club where White Zombie is playing to find Kayla (Amy Locane), the ex-girlfriend of Brenden Fraser’s Chazz. White Zombie is playing “Feed the Gods,” a song written for the movie by the band and included on the movie’s soundtrack. It was also released as a single and reached #157 on the Billboard Hot 200. The band also filmed a music video for the song, which unfortunately doesn’t include any of the movie’s cast members but does feature a creepy clown and the band’s retro horror aesthetics throughout.
