Everything Action Theater: The Omen (1976)
While it received mixed reviews upon its release, 1976’s The Omen has become a horror classic, and you can watch it in the latest Everything Action Theater. Directed by the great Richard Donner, The Omen stars Gregory Peck as US diplomat Robert Thorn. When his wife Katherine (Lee Remick) gives birth to a son, Thorn is told that the baby has died but is persuaded to adopt another baby boy born at the same time whose mother died in childbirth. Naming their son Damien, the Thorns notice strange things happen when Damien turns five, including their nanny hanging herself at Damien’s birthday party. A reporter, played by David Warner, approaches Thorn and tries to convince him that his son may be the Antichrist and is being groomed to bring about the apocalypse. The movie has some genuinely memorable kill sequences, including a decapitation via a pane of glass, and it was a box office hit. Three sequels followed the original movie, with a remake in 2006, a TV series on A&E in 2016, and this year’s The First Omen, the surprisingly well-received prequel movie.
