Musical Montage: Mudvayne “Not Falling”
Superhero movies like Daredevil and The Punisher weren’t the only genre embracing nu-metal in the early 2000s with horror movies like 2002’s Ghost Ship, which featured Mudvayne’s “Not Falling” on the soundtrack. Infamous for its incredible opening sequence, Ghost Ship saw a salvage crew getting a tip about the abandoned ocean liner Antonia Graza, which would be worth millions if they can get it back to port. Almost immediately after setting foot on the formerly luxurious ship, strange and deadly things happen to the crew. The mechanic of the salvage crew, Santos, seems to be a massive Mudvayne fan, blasting “Not Falling” on the way to the Antonia Graza, much to the annoyance of the crew’s captain, Gabriel Bryne. The DVD release of Ghost Ship featured a music video for “Not Falling” but it was an unofficial one that only featured clips from the movie. Mudvayne put out two official music videos for the song and it peaked at #11 upon release Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. It was the band’s most successful song until they released “Happy?” in 2005. Check out all three music videos for “Not Falling” below.
