Madame Web Swings Into Theaters in February (Trailer)
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (or the SSU) continues to expand and get weirder in February with the release of Madame Web. Dakota Johnson stars as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who develops psychic powers after a near-death incident. Seeing the “webs” of the future, she can see different outcomes of events and change them. One of the futures she sees is a mysterious villain attacking three young women, Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Connor), and Anya Corazon (Isabela Merced), who are destined to be Spider heroes Spider-Woman, Spider-Girl, and Arana respectively. The villain hunting them is Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim), who has ties to the research Cassandra’s mother was doing on spiders in the Amazon before she was killed. The Final Destination/Next style premonition powers seem interesting but it’s still such a weird choice of character to base a big blockbuster superhero movie on, considering Madame Webb is best known as a blind, paraplegic elderly woman who mentors Spider-Man from another dimension. Madame Webb arrives on Valentine’s Day next year and you can check out the trailer below.
