Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun
Disney reveals several release dates for upcoming movies: Before next week’s big industry event CinemaCon, Disney revealed release dates for several big upcoming projects. The Mandalorian & Grogu, the theatrical debut of the Disney+ favorites, will arrive on May 22nd, 2026. Toy Story 5 is set for June 19th, 2026. The live-action remake of Moana is coming July 10, 2026 and Tron: Ares is set for Oct. 10, 2025. These dates are all obviously subject to change if there are any delays or events like last year’s strikes.
Dynamite acquires the license for Terminator: Dynamite Comics will be the new home for Terminator comics, acquiring the rights to the iconic franchise from Skydance. The company announced they will have several options to celebrate the original movie’s 40th anniversary this year, including publishing classic Terminator comics and new series in the Terminator universe.
Frank Grillo joins Tulsa King for Season 2: Action fan-favorite Frank Grillo is joining Stallone’s Tulsa King for the upcoming second season of the Paramount+ series. Grillo will play Bill Bevilaqua, a Kansas City mobster who sounds like he will be a new rival to Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi. The second season will hopefully debut this fall on Paramount+.
Avengelyne movie in development: Rob Liefeld’s creation Avengelyne is currently amid a rights auction with a potential film directed by Olivia Wilde on the table. Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is also looking to get in on the action. Avengelyne is a fallen angel who battles the demonic forces of the Devil on Earth.
Denis Villeneuve reteams with Legendary for a new project: Fresh off Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve is teaming again with Legendary for a new film, most likely after the third and final entry in his Dune series, Dune: Messiah. The new project is an adaptation of Nuclear War: A Scenario, a New York Times bestselling non-fiction book by Annie Jacobsen. The book describes how a nuclear war would play out today, with interviews and insights from various military and civilian experts.
Among Us animated series rounds out cast: The upcoming animated adaptation of Among Us is rounding out its voice cast with Patton Oswalt, Debra Wilson, Phil LaMarr, and Wayne Knight joining a cast that already includes Dan Stevens, Liv Hewson, Kimiko Glenn, Randall Park, Yvette Nicole Brown, Elijah Wood, and Ashley Johnson. The show will follow the same basic premise of the game, where a spaceship crew learns that one of them has been replaced by a deadly alien mimic that wants to kill everyone.
Fantastic Fourcasts Silver Surfer: The MCU has found its Silver Surfer with Julia Garner, of Ozark, joining the movie as the Shalla-Bal version of the character. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were announced a few months ago as Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, Johnny Blaze, and Ben Grimm respectively. Wandavision‘s Matt Shakman is directing the movie, which will arrive on July 25th next summer.
Supergirl may have found a director: A director may have been found for the new DC Universe’s Supergirl movie, with Craig Gillespie in talks to direct. Gillespie previously directed I, Tonya, and Cruella and directed and produced Pam & Tommy. Milly Alcock was cast as Kara Zor-El and the movie is based on Tom King’s 2022 storyline Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Alcock will appear in a different DC Universe project before appearing in her solo movie.
New Matrix movie in development: A new movie in The Matrix franchise is in development at WB Discovery, with Drew Goddard set to write and direct it. Goddard directed Cabin in the Woods and Bad Times at the El Royale and co-created Daredevil on Netflix. There are no details on the plot or if any legacy cast members from the original quadrilogy will appear.
RIP Joe Flaherty and Chance Perdomo: Joe Flaherty and Chance Perdomo both died this past week. Flaherty died at age 82 and was a regular on SCTV and Freaks & Geeks. He also had an extremely memorable appearance in Happy Gilmore as a heckler who terrorizes Adam Sandler. He also appeared in movies like Johnny Dangerously, Innerspace, Who’s Harry Crumb, Back To The Future Part II, and Stuart Saves His Family. Chance Perdomo was killed in a motorcycle accident last weekend at age 27. He co-starred in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Gen V. Amazon and the Gen V cast released statements regarding Perdomo’s death and production on Gen V Season 2 has been delayed.
Action Thriller Bring the Law adds cast members: The upcoming action thriller Bring the Law added several cast members, including Mickey Rourke. Peter Facinelli, Nicky Whelan, Danielle Harris, Brendan Fehr, and Leah Pipes also joined the cast and the movie is about “a grieving homicide detective chosen to lead a task force in Los Angeles to stop a criminal organization. He soon unravels a conspiracy involving corruption in his own department”. The movie will be the directorial debut of Scout Taylor-Compton, who starred in the Rob Zombie Halloween movies.
Captain Marvel duo directing Ed Brubaker’s Criminal: Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the duo who directed Captain Marvel for the MCU, have signed on to direct the first four episodes of Amazon’s adaptation of Ed Brubaker’s comic, Criminal. The comic follows, “…the interweaving saga of several generations of families tied together by the crimes and murders of the past”. Brubaker wrote the pilot and is showrunning the series with crime author Jordan Harper.
Dave Bautista movie Trap House adds cast members: Several cast members were added to join Dave Bautista in the action movie Trap House. Jack Champion, Sophia Lillis, Kate del Castillo, Bobby Cannavale, Whitney Peak, and Tony Dalton signed on to the movie, which, “follows an undercover DEA agent and his partner who embark on a game of cat and mouse with an audacious group of thieves: their own rebellious teenagers, who have begun robbing from a dangerous cartel, using their parents’ tactics and top-secret intel to pull off their heists”. Michael Dowse, who directed Stuber and Goon, is directing the movie, with Ridley Scott as one of the executive producers.
Kali Reis joins Chris Pratt’s Mercy: Hot off True Detective: Night Country, Kali Reis is joining Chris Pratt, Rebecca Ferguson, and Annabelle Wallis in the upcoming Amazon movie Mercy. The movie follows Pratt as a cop who lives in a future where capital crimes have increased. He’s accused of a violent crime himself and has to go on the run to prove his innocence. Wanted director Timur Bekbambetov is directing and the movie will hit theaters on August 15th next year.
