Musical Montage: Youngstown “I’ll Be Your Everything”
The live-action Inspector Gadget turns 25 this week, and, as was the style in 1999, it had a boy band pop song for its main soundtrack song, “I’ll Be Your Everything” by Youngstown. Written by a team that included theme song gods Haim Saban and Shuki Levy and rapper Skee-lo, the song was heard in the film and included on the movie’s soundtrack. It featured the familiar beats of the cartoon’s theme song. The song also appeared on Youngstown’s debut album, Let’s Roll, with different, more suggestive lyrics than the Disney version, like “I can freak you with my gadget.” The Disney soundtrack version reached #71 on the Billboard Hot 100. Youngstown later appeared on the soundtrack for The Princess Diaries with “Away With The Summer Days.” Also, like basically every other movie in 1999, “All-Star” by Smash Mouth appeared on the Inspector Gadget soundtrack. You can watch the music video for “I’ll Be Your Everything” below, which features clips from the movie along with Youngstown and backup dancers dressed in Gadget-style trenchcoats.
