RIP Chad McQueen: Chad McQueen passed away this week at age 63. The son of Steve McQueen, Chad McQueen was probably best known for playing Dutch in The Karate Kid, but he also starred in fun action movies like Martial Law, Deathring, Nightforce, and Firepower. He was also a professional race car driver, forming McQueen Racing and competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring, and other racing events.
Michael B. Jordan directing and starring in a new Thomas Crown Affair: Michael B. Jordan is directing and starring in a new version of The Thomas Crown Affair. Following up his directorial debut, Creed III, Jordan will star as professional thief Thomas Crown, who steals valuable art as a hobby since he’s already a wealthy playboy. The movie is a remake of the 1968 movie starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, which was previously remade in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Amazon MGM will distribute the film in theaters worldwide.
Anthony Zuiker adapting The Quiet Tenant for Blumhouse: Anthony Zuiker, who previously created CSI, is adapting the novel The Quiet Tenant for Blumhouse. The book by Clémence Michallon tells the story of a kidnapper and serial killer, Aidan Thomas, from the perspective of his 13-year-old daughter, his girlfriend, and the only victim he spared. There is no word on what streaming platform or network might pick up the series.
JonBenét Ramsey series rounds out cast: Parmount+’s true crime drama about the JonBenét Ramsey murder has rounded out its cast after casting Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as JonBenét’s parents last week. Emily Mitchell will play JonBénet and Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Owen Teague, Jaime Ray Newman, Josh Stamberg, Clifton Collins Jr, Rory Cochrane, Chris Bauer, Angus Caldwell, Shea Whigham and Will Patton will co-star. Richard LaGravenese, who wrote Behind the Candelabra, Freedom Writers, and Water for Elephants, is showrunning the series, which will be an eight-episode limited series.
RIP James Earl Jones: The legendary James Earl Jones passed away this week at age 93. Considered one of the greatest stage and film actors of all time, Jones was known for his sonorous voice, which will be most remembered as the voice of Darth Vader and Mufasa. Jones also appeared in movies like The Sandlot, The Hunt for Red October, Field of Dreams, Coming to America , and many more. He was also provided CNN with it’s iconic slogan reading “This is CNN” and narrated projects like 1992’s Lincoln and 2003’s James Earl Jones Reads the Bible: King James Version. He and his estate made a deal with Disney to use AI to continue to have his voice be used for any future Darth Vader appearances, so his voice will live on there.
