Musical Montage: Irene Cara & Freddie Jackson “Love Survives”
Celebrating its 35th anniversary this past weekend, Don Bluth’s All Dogs Go to Heaven hit theaters in 1989 and featured Irene Cara & Freddie Jackson singing its main soundtrack song, “Love Survives.” Released on the same day as Disney juggernaut The Little Mermaid, All Dogs Go to Heaven couldn’t match the same success in theaters that Bluth had with An American Tale and The Land Before Time. Still, it did become a home video success, becoming one of the highest-selling VHS releases ever. Most of the movie’s soundtrack songs were composed by Broadway veteran Charles Strouse, and cast members like Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, and Melba Moore performed the songs. “Love Survives” was dedicated to the memory of Judith Barsi, who co-starred in the movie as Anne-Marie but was tragically murdered by her father in July 1989. The song doesn’t seem like it was released as a single, so it didn’t make it on any Billboard charts, and there wasn’t any official music video either, but you can listen to the song below.
