Musical Montage: DJ Endor “Pump It Up”
Playing a pivotal role in last year’s body horror hit The Substance, along with the score by Raffertie, is the electronic song “Pump It Up” by DJ Endor. The song’s original version was by Belgian musician Danzel, with his version becoming a Top 10 hit in multiple countries in 2004. DJ Endor’s remix was released in 2019 and reached #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in November. The Arizona Diamondbacks also play the song whenever a player hits a home run. In The Substance, a remix of the remix is used as the song that drives the show within the movie Pump It Up with Sue, which is ostensibly an exercise show but seems like just an excuse to show off the character Sue’s (Margaret Qualley) body, playing into the satirical social commentary about how Hollywood views and uses women.
