It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything from Aardman Animation, the studio behind Wallace and Gromit, but next spring they’re back with The Pirates! and it looks full of the charm and British wit that previous Aardman projects have been full of. Hugh Grant, in his first animated role, plays The Pirate Captain and he and his crew are out to win the Pirate of the Year award. Rival pirates Cutlass Liz and Black Bellamy are also out for the prize and Queen Victoria wants The Captain’s head. Besides Grant, the movie has a crazy voice cast that includes Salma Hayek, Jeremy Piven, David Tennant, Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Brian Blessed to name a few. I get a very “Monkey Island” vibe from this movie and that’s a very good thing, so I’m excited. The movie is out in March of 2012 and you can check out the trailer below.
