If there was one great thing about the previous attempt to adapt His Dark Materials, The Golden Compass, it was the armored polar bear fight and those burly bear brawlers are back in the full trailer for BBC/HBO’s His Dark Materials series. Debuting at Comic-Con, the new series is being directed by Tom Hooper (who is also directing the truly terrifying Cats movie) and stars Dafne Keene as Lyra, who sets out on a journey that will put her up against powerful forces that are kidnapping children for a sinister purpose in a world where everyone has an animal companion that represents part of their soul called daemons. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ruth Wilson, James McAvoy, Ruta Gedmintas, Clarke Peters, Georgina Campbell, and James Cosmo co-star. The show already has a second season on the way and the first season begins on HBO this fall and it looks great and definitely could help fill the void left by Game of Thrones.
