Before we see him strap on the shield later this year for Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+, Anthony Mackie is returning to Netflix for their first big original action movie of 2021, Outside the Wire. Mackie plays Captain Leo, an android soldier who recruits a disgraced drone pilot, Lt. Harp (Damson Idris) to join him on an operation into a dangerous DMZ to track down a deadly superweapon before insurgents find it. Michael Kelly, Emily Beecham, and Pilou Asbaek co-star with Mikael Håfström, who’s more known for horror than action, is directing. Netflix had some great action movies last year with Extraction, The Old Guard, and Project Power, so hopefully, this one will keep up that trend. It looks like it has some Neil Blomkampesque stuff in it with robotic soldiers fighting alongside humans and there looks to be some sort of conspiracy that will force Leo to go rogue. Outside the Wire hits Netflix on January 15th and you can check out the trailer below.
