Blowing up the Internet today is this pretty awesome video everyone is assuming was made to promote either a new game or a new movie. Posted by the profile “MortalKombatRebirth” the video stars Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade and features a pretty awesome fight scene between Baraka and Johnny Cage. Jax wants Scorpion to go find Shang Tsung and his underground fighting tournament and eliminate everyone involved. E3 is next week so it could be to promote a new game but places like CHUD are saying it’s for a new movie. If this was the direction for a new Mortal Kombat movie, I would definitely be on board. *Update* 6/9- We learned today that the video is actually a proof of concept by director Kevin Tancharoen and produced by Universal to see how an R rated, gritty reboot of Mortal Kombat would go over. Considering it exploded the internet yesterday, I’d say there’s at least some interest.
