A bunch of news coming out of Comic Con, lots of video game related projects, Marvel and DC's continuing cinematic battle and much more in this week's News Shotgun.
Street Fighter live action series coming, “Assasssin’s Fist”: The team behind the fan film “Street Fighter: Legacy” have been hired by Capcom to do an official, most likely web, series based on the franchise. The show is subtitled “Assassin’s Fist” and will follow the early training days of Ryu and Ken.
Mads Mikkelsen out for Thor 2: Originally announced as the main villain for Thor 2, Mads Mikkelsen, who is also starring in NBC’s Hannibal series, is no longer on the project.
Alan Tudyk co-starring in Wreck it Ralph, Skrillex scoring some scenes: Alan Tudyk, beloved nerd icon, has been announced as playing King Candy in the Mario Kartesque game, Sugar Rush, in Wreck it Ralph and for the Gears of War/Halo inspired “Hero’s Duty” game in the movie, dubstep sensation Skrillex will be scoring all the music. There is no way this movie will not be awesome.
Marvel directing news:It was heavily rumored a couple months ago but Fox officially announced that Josh Trank, director of Chronicle, will be directing the Fantastic Four reboot while David Slade has left the Daredevil reboot.
Man of Steel last DC movie till 2015: While Marvel is riding high in the movie department, besides Batman, DC has failed at pretty much every attempt and after Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel next year, they are going to regroup for three years. They are most likely going to figure out how they can copy Marvel success and have a bunch of movies leading to a Justice League movie.
Eli Roth directing Harker, starring Russell Crowe as Dracula: It’s been a while since Eli Roth was behind the camera, most recently helping his buddy Quentin Tarantino with his most recent projects in front of the camera, but Roth is attached to Harker, a vampire/detective movie with Russell Crowe playing Dracula, who is being hunted by a Scotland Yard detective, Jonathan Harker.
Deus Ex movie in the works: The popular video game franchise has been picked up by CBS Films for a big screen adaptation. The movie will most likely be based on last year’s entry in the franchise, Human Revolution.
Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady in Ninja Turtles: Movie site Latino Review apparently got to read the script for Platinum Dunes reboot of TMNT and apparently familiar faces Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady are included. That would be fantastic as those characters have never been in a movie before, although Bebop and Rocksteady were supposed to be in 2 but were replaced by Tokka and Rahzar.
The Wolverine casting announced:Will Yun Lee will be playing Silver Samurai and Jessica Biel will be Viper. The movie is based on the classic storyline where Wolverine spent some time in Japan.
Michael Fassbender producing and starring in Assassin’s Creed movie: Michael Fassbender, who is so hot right now, will be producing and starring in an Assassin’s Creed movie. It will most likely be based on the first game but it’s not clear whether Fassbender will star as modern day protagonist Desmond Miles, ancestor Altair or both (awesome!).
