Although there were reports that it would be another entry in the Cloverfield franchise, Paramount and JJ Abrams have denied that Overlord is hiding any secret alien monsters but it does have a crapload of Nazi Zombies. Directed by Julius Avery, who previously directed the Ewan McGregor movie Son of a Gun, Overlord follows a squad of paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines in France during Operation Overlord aka the D-Day invasion. The squad discovers a nearby Nazi stronghold and it’s being used for grotesque and horrific experiments, chief among them trying to create immortal soldiers for the “1,000 year Reich”. With AC/DC’s “Hells Bells” playing, this movie feels like it’s firmly in Grindhouse territory with some Call of Duty/Wolfenstein influence as well. Wyatt Russell, Bokeem Woodbine, Pilou Asbaek, Iain De Caestecker, Mathilde Ollivier and Jovan Adepo star and it arrives just in time for Halloween on October 26th. Check out the trailer below.
