It’s been over 35 years since audiences first experienced the dark fantasy of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal but Netflix is returning to the world of Thra for a prequel series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Age of Resistance follows three Gelflings, Brea (Anya Taylor-Joy), Rian (Taron Egerton) and Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel) as they discover that the vile Skeksis are harnessing a powerful force and begin a rebellion to try and stop them. Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Mark Hamill, Jason Isaacs, Theo James, Hannah John-Kamen, Toby Jones, Keegan Michael-Key, Gubu Mbatha-Raw, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander and more are also part of the voice cast and the show’s creators, including director Louis Leterrier, have said they will be relying on puppetry and not CG, except for green screens and digitally removing puppeteers. If they are indeed only using puppets, the trailer highlights some of the most incredible puppetry ever put on screen and you can check out the entire series on August 30th.
