Following up Hereditary and Midsommar, Ari Aster is back with A24 for another potentially disturbing but also fantastical-looking new movie, Beau is Afraid. Joaquin Phoenix stars as Beau, who lives in an “alternate present” and makes a journey home when his overbearing mother dies. The journey seems to become an epic adventure as he’s held captive, makes his way through a fairy tale world, comes under fire, and more. Amy Adams, Nathan Lane, Zoe Lister-Jones, Patti LuPone, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey, Richard Kind, and Michael Gandolfini co-star. Aster describes the movie as a “nightmare comedy” and potentially could be close to four hours long.
