In case you missed it in theaters, The Naked Gun will start streaming on September 30th on Paramount+.
Liam Neeson stars as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the late, great Leslie Nielsen’s iconic bumbling cop. We all know Neeson for his serious action roles recently, but he’s also shown a comedic side in shows like Extras and movies like A Million Ways to Die in the West, which he gets to put on full display. He’s joined by Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer, 1/3 of The Lonely Island and director of movies like Popstar and Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins produced the film.
The movie promises the same relentless barrage of gags, absurd set-pieces, and over-the-top silliness that made the original trilogy (From the Files of Police Squad!, The Smell of Fear, and The Final Insult) cult favorites. Paramount+ even reported a massive 84% spike in viewership for the classic films when the reboot hit theaters earlier this year, proving audiences still have an appetite for Drebin-style mayhem, and now you can do a full marathon leading into this year’s entry in the classic series. The Naked Gun currently has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, so it was a hit with critics as well.
With Neeson now taking the lead, expect a blend of hard-edged action parody and outrageous slapstick, keeping with the spirit of the Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker originals but with a modern twist. The movie is rated PG-13 for crude humor, violence, and brief nudity—so, exactly what you’d expect from The Naked Gun.
