Everything Action Theater: Captain America (1990)
While Anthony Mackie wields the shield this weekend in Captain America: Brave New World, J.D. Salinger’s son Matt Sallinger was Cap in the 1990 movie, which you can watch in the latest Everything Action Theater.
Directed by B-movie legend Albert Pyun and produced by one half of Cannon Films, Menahem Golan, the movie followed Steve Rogers (Sallinger) as he stops an attack by the Red Skull (Scott Paulin) to attack Washington D.C. in World War II, causing him to be frozen in the icy landscape of Alaska. In 1992, he is discovered and thawed out, just in time to stop a dangerous new plot by Red Skull, who has become a shadowy criminal mastermind and works with his daughter Valentina (Francesca Neri). Ronny Cox, Ned Beatty, and Darren McGavin co-starred. The movie received a theatrical release internationally but went straight to video in the US. It received terrible reviews from critics at the time but has become something of a cult classic in the bad movie community, especially since the rise and dominance of the MCU has created massive interest in anything Marvel.
