Battle at the Box Office 3/3/25
With most of the attention on the Oscars this past weekend, things were extremely slow in theaters. Captain America: Brave New World held on to the top spot for a third week.
Captain America: Brave New World took in another $14.8 million, dropping 47% from last weekend. The movie has grossed $163.5 million domestically and $341.9 million worldwide. It’s currently the third-highest grossing film worldwide for 2025. In the MCU domestically, it’s closing in on Ant-Man, Thor, and Black Widow, but we’ll have to see if it crosses over $200 million to get past Thor: The Dark World. Worldwide, it’s sitting between Captain America: The First Avenger and The Incredible Hulk toward the bottom of the list.
Last Breath opened in second place with $7.8 million. That puts it between The World’s End and Race for Focus Features openings. The production company’s biggest opening is Fifty Shades of Gray. For star Woody Harrelson, that opening is between After the Sunset and Triple 9.
The Monkey dropped to third with another $6.4 million, dropping 54% from last weekend’s opening. For a horror movie, that’s not that steep of a drop. It currently has $24.6 million domestically.
Paddington in Peru and Dog Man rounded out the top 5.
Ne Zha 2 took in another $1.7 million in seventh place, bringing its domestic total to $17.9 million. Worldwide, the movie has $1.7 billion, mostly from its native China, where it continues to bring in massive amounts of box office.
The best per theater average went to The Accidental Getaway Driver, which made $8,807 in each of the four theaters it played in.
