Battle at the Box Office 5/19/25
Death ruled the weekend box office as Final Destination: Bloodlines set a new record for the 25-year-old franchise.
Final Destination: Bloodlines opened to $51.7 million domestically, the highest opening ever for the Final Destination series. That tops The Final Destination, which had the high mark with $27.4 million or $41.3 million if you adjust for inflation. Worldwide, Bloodlines has made $102.7 million, which means it has already outgrossed the worldwide total of Final Destination 2 and should easily pass Final Destination and Final Destination 3. The Final Destination is the current highest-grossing movie in the series worldwide with $187.3 million. Bloodlines got a B+ CinemaScore, which is relatively solid for a horror movie.
Thunderbolts* dropped to second place with another $16.5 million. Its domestic total is $155.4 million, and its worldwide total is $325.7 million.
Sinners was in third place with another strong hold, dropping 31% from last weekend and making another $15.2 million. It now has $240.5 million domestically and $316.5 million worldwide.
A Minecraft Movie and The Accountant 2 rounded out the top five. Warner Bros. had three of the top five movies for the weekend.
Hurry Up Tomorrow debuted outside the top 5 in sixth place with $3.3 million. Lionsgate’s deal to distribute the film apparently is structured so they won’t lose any money on The Weeknd’s cinematic experiment, but it seems like it’s going to nosedive fairly quickly. The movie got a C- CinemaScore, so general audiences weren’t really into what they were seeing, and any hardcore The Weeknd fans were probably out this past weekend. Since it’s not a concert film, there doesn’t seem to be many reasons for repeat viewings.
Friendship had the best per-theater average for the weekend and also placed seventh in the weekend top 10. The A24 movie made $1.4 million in 60 theaters and had a per-theater average of $23,338.
