It’s back-to-school time for many, and you can get into the spirit with the obscure Cannon film Under Cover from 1987. Starring David Neidorf and Jennifer Jason Leigh, the pair go undercover at a South Carolina high school to stop a drug ring and avenge the death of a fellow cop. Piper Cochrane, Barry Corbin, David Denney, and Kathleen Wilhoite co-starred, and John Stockwell directed the movie in his feature directorial debut. Stockwell actually co-wrote and starred in another high school-set thriller, Dangerously Close, which Cannon released in 1986. 21 Jump Street also debuted in the spring of 1987, but it’s not clear if Golan and Globus rushed this movie into production to capitalize; given their track record, it wouldn’t be shocking in the least.
