While It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown takes most of the Halloween special spotlight, Garfield also has a fantastic special that first aired in 1985, Garfield’s Halloween Adventure, which you can watch in the latest Everything Action Theater. The fourth Garfield animated special, Garfield’s Halloween Adventure was written by Garfield creator Jim Davis and directed by Phil Roman. Lorenzo Music provided Garfield’s voice, and the special follows Garfield and Odie as they trick-or-treat on Halloween night. Looking for even more candy, Garfield forces Odie to cross the local river to find more houses, but they end up at a creepy haunted mansion and find a crew of pirate ghosts. Like the other Garfield specials, there was lots of music mixed with the spookiness, with Lou Rawls performing two songs and Music performing most of the others. The special won an Emmy award for Outstanding Animated Program and aired frequently on CBS until 1999. The special was also adapted into a storybook that included an alternate ending. You can currently watch the special for free on Plex, and it’s also on YouTube. You can check it out below.
