A new developer update has dropped for the Game Boy Color-inspired title Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land. Retro gamers with fond memories of hunching over their Game Boys should be excited to see Exquisite Laundry Pet and Mega Cat Studios’ latest news on how the gameplay is shaping up. Creator Adam Lewis Graf walks through the evolution of the game’s combat system in a recent update post. Watch below as Graf outlines his design approach and how he keeps the game fast and intuitive for players.
The game is built around classic pocksize pixel visuals from late 90s handheld RPGs, with all the visual charm of simple pickup-and-go gameplay. Set on a Halloween night gone wrong, Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land follows Gumball as he wanders into a strange and candy-filled realm where costumes come to life, neighborhoods twist into maze-like paths, and every encounter hides a surprise. Players will explore quirky locations, interact with oddball characters, and engage in turn-based combat. Check out the release data to get a recap of what to expect from the release.
Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land is set to release digitally on Steam and physically on Game Boy Color on February 19, 2026. For a preview, check out the demo available on Steam.
