It’s only been 10 years since the animated film came out, but Moana is the latest Disney film to get the live-action remake treatment. Catherine Laga’aia makes her film debut as Moana, who is summoned by the ocean to set out on a quest to save her island home of Motunui. Finding the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), the pair team up to take on the various dangers of the ocean and reunite the goddess Te Fiti with an ancient relic. John Tui, Frankie Adams, and Rena Owen co-star. Mark Mancina, who wrote the score for animated films, returns for the remake, as does Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the first film’s songs. Thomas Kail, who worked with Miranda directing In the Heights and Hamilton on Broadway, makes his feature film debut directing Moana. Moana is out on July 10t,h and you can check out the new trailer below.
