Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.

Christopher McQuarrie directing Battlefield movie: Christopher McQuarrie is heading to Battlefield to direct an adaptation of the EA game series. McQuarrie is set to write, produce, and direct. Michael B. Jordan is in talks to star and also produce the film. It’s unclear whether the movie will be based on a specific game or time period, as the series has spanned from 1942 to the near future.
Gen V canceled: Classes at God U are canceled, as Gen V will not continue on Prime Video.  The Boys spin-off wrapped up its second season in October last year, and characters and plotlines from Gen V have factored into the final season of The Boys, currently on Prime Video. The franchise’s prequel series, Vought Rising, will keep the universe going next year.
Park Chan-Wook gathers cast for Western thriller: Park Chan-Wook is assembling an all-star cast for his next film, a Western thriller called The Brigands of Rattlecreek, a passion project for the Korean auteur. Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, and Tang Wei have signed on to star in the film, which follows a sheriff and a doctor as they seek revenge on a group of bandits who use the cover of torrential thunderstorms to raid and terrorize a small town. S. Craig Zahler, director of Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99, wrote the screenplay.
Predator/Planet of the Apes crossover comic coming: The Yautja will face a prey they’ve never encountered before as the Predator franchise collides with Planet of the Apes in a new Marvel comics crossover. Written by Greg Pak and with art by Alan Robinson, the comic will follow an astronaut named Arch who ends up in the hostile ape society of Planet of the Apes.  While the apes hunt Arch, the Predators arrive to hunt the apes.  Predator vs. Planet of the Apes #1 will be on sale on July 29th this summer.
Clueless series not moving forward at Peacock: A Clueless sequel series will not move forward at Peacock. Alicia Silverstone was attached to return to star and produce the series. CBS Studios, which owns the TV rights to Clueless, will shop it to potential buyers.  Clueless previously aired as a TV series in 1996, first on ABC before moving to UPN, and ran for three seasons.
Musical version of The Odyssey becoming an animated film: Christopher Nolan is bringing his vision of The Odyssey to theaters this summer, and an animated, musical version is in development from Jerry Bruckheimer. Based on the viral project Epic by Jorge Rivera-Herrans, who turned The Odyssey into a series of musicals that garnered viral attention on TikTok, with fans contributing animations to go with the music and helping cast the various roles. Rivera-Herrans is on board with the movie project, which will turn his project into an animated feature film.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot finds a director: The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie seems to have found its director/writer in Curry Barker. Barker is in talks with A24, which acquired the franchise rights and has Glen Powell as one of its executive producers. Powell is working on a TV series with Dan Cohen and JT Mollner. Barker’s movie Obsession is in theaters on May 15th. Barker is also working on another horror film, Anything But Ghosts, with Aaron Paul starring.
Action dramedy Turnbuckle finds main cast: The main cast for the upcoming action dramedy Turnbuckle has been announced, with Emile Hirsch, Kate Beckinsale, Terrence Howard, Evan Ross, Cara Delevingne, and Famke Janssen. The film, written and directed by Sean McEwen, is a “darkly comic Southern story about redemption, survival, and small-town chaos.”
Miami Vice reboot gets new title: The upcoming reboot of Miami Vice from Joseph Kosinski has been retitled Miami Vice ’85.  Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan have closed deals to co-star as Crockett and Tubbs, and the movie is inspired by the pilot and first season of the iconic 80s cop show. Production will start this fall, and the movie is set for release on August 6th, 2027.
The Night Agent adds cast members for Season 4: For the upcoming fourth season of the Netflix action series The Night Agent, Titus Welliver, Trevante Rhodes, Li Jun Li, and Elizabeth Lail join the cast alongside star Gabriel Basso. While no official character details have been revealed, it’s believed Rhodes will be Basso’s new partner, while Lail will be Peter Sutherland’s ex-fiancée, Zoe. Season 3 debuted on February 19th this year.
Cop Land TV series in development: The Stallone film Cop Land is getting a TV adaptation with the 1997 film’s director, James Mangold, at the helm. Mangold will executive-produce, co-write, and direct the series, with The Old Man co-creator Robert Levine showrunning.  Cop Land follows Stallone as a New Jersey sheriff who comes into conflict with a group of corrupt NYPD cops living in his town.
Heart Eyes 2 gets a release date: Valentine’s slasher Heart Eyes has its sequel set for February 11th, 2028. The film made $32.9 million worldwide last year. Josh Ruben is returning to direct, and he’ll co-write the script with Darcy Fowler. Olivia Holt will return from the first movie as Ally McCabe.
Benedict Cumberbatch starring in White Smoke TV series: Based on the crime thriller novel White Smoke, which will be released next year, A24 is producing a TV adaptation with Benedict Cumberbatch starring. The novel and TV series are set during the papal conclave as a group of thieves and con men plot to steal some of the Vatican’s most valuable treasures.
Southern Bastards rounds out cast: Joining Kevin Bacon, Erin Kellyman, and Tim McGraw for Hulu’s adaptation of the graphic novel series Southern Bastards are Jonathan Tucker, Amin Joseph, Ethan Suplee, Derek Luke, and Aunjanue Ellis- Taylor. Kellyman stars as a military vet who heads to Craw County, Alabama, to find her estranged father and finds a vast criminal empire being run by the local high school football coach.
Patrick Hughes directing High Rise adaptation: Coming off the solid War Machine on Netflix, Patrick Hughes has signed on to direct an adaptation of the thriller novel High Rise.  Written by Gabriel Bergmoser, the novel is a mix of Die Hard and The Raid as a rogue ex-cop heads to a run-down high-rise to find his estranged daughter, who doesn’t want to be found. Shortly after arriving, the entire criminal underworld descends on the building to collect a massive bounty on the ex-cop’s head, and the father/daughter duo has to survive and fight their way out. Bergmoser will write the film adaptation of his novel.
Play Dead heads to Netflix: Jaume Collet-Serra’s upcoming World War II thriller Play Dead will stream on Netflix as part of the director’s multi-year deal with the company.  Play Dead stars Noah Jupe as a shell-shocked soldier in World War II who is the only survivor of an ambush that wipes out his squad. Surrounded by a battalion of Nazi soldiers, he has to survive the night by pretending to be dead.
Safe Houses adds two cast members: The upcoming Apple TV thriller Safe Houses has added David Lyons and Tobias Menzies. Ana De Armas and Jennifer Connelly star in the series, which follows the killing of a high-ranking CIA officer (Menzies) in Madrid. De Armas is the fugitive agent accused of the crime, while Connelly is the agent’s widow who begins investigating it. Lyons plays Kevin Garvey, a special ops CIA agent. The series is created by Gideon Raff, who co-created Homeland and its Israeli predecessor, Prisoners of War.
RIP Patrick Muldoon: Actor Patrick Muldoon died from a heart attack earlier this week at age 57. Muldoon starred in Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place and played Zander Barcalow in Starship Troopers.  He was also a producer on films like Arkansas, Marlowe, The Card Counter, The Dreadful, and Riff Raff. His last on-screen role is Dirty Hands, which debuted in limited theaters and on VOD/Digital this weekend.
Elden Ring movie reveals full cast: A24’s adaptation of the massively popular FromSoftware has revealed its full cast. Kit Connor will star along with Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Emma Laird, Peter Serafinowicz, and Jonathan Pryce. Alex Garland wrote and will direct the film. He’s apparently a massive fan of the game, and he personally pitched his idea for a film adaptation to Bandai Namco and FromSoftware. The movie is out on March 3rd, 2028.
