Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.

Francis Lawrence in talks to direct Carry Me to My Grave: Hunger Games and The Long Walk director Francis Lawrence is in talks to direct an adaptation of the upcoming novel Carry Me to My Grave by Christoper Golden. The novel follows a man who has to protect his dead mother’s body from an evil that is haunting it. Lionsgate acquired the rights to the novel, which will be out on July 21st.
Ric Roman Waugh signs on to Six Minutes to Freedom: Frequent Gerard Butler collaborator Ric Roman Waugh has signed to direct the Netflix movie Six Minutes to Freedom.  Based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Kurt Muse and John Gilstrap, the movie is based on Operation Acid Gambit, a 1989 Delta Force raid into Panama to rescue a CIA asset whom the Noriega regime had captured. The Delta Force team only had a six-minute head start on the main US forces invading Panama, after which the CIA asset, Kurt Muse, would be executed.
Thriller The Servant finds main cast: Upcoming thriller The Servant has found its main cast with Colman Domingo, Nicholas Hoult, Noah Jupe, and Emma Corrin. The movie, directed by Francis Lee, is set in 1950s New York and is “about Tony (Hoult), an entitled British man who moves into a beautiful apartment on Central Park and becomes embroiled in a wicked power play with his manservant, Barrett (Domingo).” The movie is a reimagining of the 1963 British movie directed by Joseph Losey.
Sam Raimi directing a remake of Magic: Sam Raimi is following up Send Help with a remake of the cult 70s horror movie Magic.  The original was directed by Richard Attenborough and starred Anthony Hopkins as a ventriloquist who became controlled by his evil puppet. Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who wrote Send Help for Raimi, will write the script for this new version of Magic.
Dacre Montgomery joins Caine: Stranger Things and Faces of Death star Dacre Montgomery has joined Donnie Yen and Rina Sawayama in the upcoming John Wick spinoff, Caine.  Montgomery’s role was not disclosed. Yen is directing the film and reprising his role as the formidable blind assassin Caine, who was freed from his obligations to the High Table with John’s help in John Wick Chapter 4.  Sawayama reprises her role of Akira from Chapter 4. Â
Will Smith starring in Supermax: Will Smith has signed on to star in the upcoming high-concept thriller Supermax.  Directed by David Gordon Green, Supermax follows a pair of FBI agents who are called in to investigate a murder that occurs at the world’s most secure prison. Amazon MGM acquired the film for $70 million and is making it a Prime Video exclusive, skipping a theatrical release.
Kate Beckinsale starring in Twilight of the Dead: The final chapter of George A. Romero’s Dead franchise, Twilight of the Dead, will star Kate Beckinsale, replacing Milla Jovovich. Romero completed the treatment for Twilight of the Dead before he died in 2017 and considered it the final chapter of his horror saga, which began with Night of the Living Dead.  Twilight of the Dead is “set on a decimated earth where the last vestiges of humanity are trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat.” The Paz Brothers, who directed films like The Golem and Plan A, are set to direct the film.
Jodie Comer starring in The Chain for HBO: Jodie Comer has signed on to star in the upcoming HBO limited series, The Chain, created by Damon Lindelof. Based on Adrian McKinty’s novel, Comer stars as a mother “who must consider the unthinkable when her daughter is kidnapped.” Lindelof is the showrunner and executive producer on the series and also co-wrote the pilot script with Carly Wray.
KPop Demon Hunters world tour announced: Huntr/x is coming to cities around the world, as Netflix announced a global live experience at their 2026 Upfront presentation earlier this week. Most details are still under wraps, like the tour stops, dates, and ticket prices, but you can sign up at https://kpopdemonhunterslive.com/ to get on the waitlist.
Barbaric comic adaptation coming to Netflix: Netflix has greenlit a series adaptation of Barbaric, based on the comic series from Vault Comics. The comic follows a ruthless, violent barbarian cursed to use his violence only for good. He’s joined on his quest by a talking axe and a young witch. Sam Claflin was previously signed to star, with Patrick Stewart voicing the ax. Michael Bay had also been in talks to direct, but that was back in 2024, when Netflix first acquired the comic rights. It’s not clear if Bay is still involved.
Ahsoka Season 2 gets a “release window”: Ahsoka Season 2 will take a bit longer to get to Disney+, as it was announced that the show has a “release window” of early 2027. It will be over three years since the Season 1 finale debuted in October 2023. Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu, Eman Esfandi, and Lars Mikkelsen return to star, with Rory McCann taking over for the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skol. Hayden Christensen will also return as Anakin Skywalker, and fan favorite character Admiral Ackbar will also make an appearance.
Visionquest gets a premiere date: Paul Bettany will be back in October when Visionquest debuts on Disney+ on October 14th. The conclusion to the Wandavision “trilogy,” which includes Wandavision and Agatha All Along, Visionquest will follow the new Vision, who appeared in the finale of Wandavision, as he tries to regain his memories and humanity. James Spader is returning to the MCU as Ultron with Todd Stashwick co-starring as Paladin, a mercenary anti-hero targetting Vision’s technology and Faran Tahir reprising his role as Ten Rings leader Raza from Iron Man.
JCVD co-starring in Prison Fight: Jean-Claude Van Damme is co-starring in the upcoming MMA drama Prison Fight from French director David Charhon. Co-starring Tewfik Jallab, Nassim Lyes, and Salim Kechiouche, the movie follows a fighter named Abel who travels to Thailand to compete in the controversial underground tournament known as Prison Fight (a real program in Thailand). Prisoners are allowed to fight foreign fighters in Muay Thai competitions and can receive sentence reductions and even be released from prison if they win enough fights and maintain good behavior.
Netflix series The Roman finds main cast: Netflix’s Las Vegas-set series The Roman has found its main cast, with Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, and David Costabile, who join the previously cast Oscar Isaac. Isaac stars as Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, the owner of the hottest hotel/casino in Vegas, who is looking to expand his empire. Gilpin will play his wife, Marla Blake, a highly skilled and well-connected lawyer. Baldwin is playing Paul “Primo” Clark, Bobby’s mentor, while Costabile is Bill Saverick, who operates a rival casino.
Michael Ealy joins new Magnificent Seven: Michael Ealy has signed on to co-star in the MGM+ series reboot of The Magnificent Seven.  Ealy is playing Vic Tanner, originally played by Steve McQueen in the classic 1960 film. Chris Pratt played a similar character in Antoine Fuqua’s 2016 remake. Will Patton and Matt Dillon were previously cast in the series, with Dillon playing Chris Adams, the leader of the Seven who Yul Brynner originally played.
Weird Al Broadway musical in development: The music of Weird Al is coming to Broadway with a new musical in development for the stage.  Moulin Rouge! director Alex Timbers is behind the musical with writers Scott Brown and Anthony King, who wrote Gutenberg! The Musical! and Beetlejuice.  The musical will feature classic Al songs like “Eat It”, “White & Nerdy, “Amish Paradise,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” and more.
Fast & Furious TV series in development: While franchise star Vin Diesel announced four shows based on the Fast & Furious franchise were in development. The first one will be on Peacock, with Diesel as an executive producer and Mike Daniels writing the pilot. Daniels is behind the reboot of The Rockford Files, which NBC just picked up for a series. It’s unclear what the shows will be about or where they will be set in the world of The Fast Saga.
Reacher gets early renewal: With Season 4 coming out sometime later this year, Amazon has given an early Season 5 renewal to Reacher.  Season 4 is based on the 13th Lee Child Jack Reacher novel, Gone Tomorrow, which finds Reacher (Alan Ritchson) encountering a distraught stranger on a subway, leading him into a complicated and deadly game against powerful foes. Chris Marquette, Sydelle Noel, Agnez Mo, Anggun, Kevin Weisman, Marc Blucas, Kevin Corrigan, and Kathleen Roberston all join the series as new cast members for Season 4.
Matt Bomer joins The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Matt Bomer will co-star opposite Eddie Redmayne in the upcoming second season of Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal.  Character details weren’t revealed, but it seems like Bomer will be playing a villain. Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber were previously cast for the new season. The series is based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 film adaptation, with Redmayne playing The Jackal, an elusive and dangerous assassin who travels the globe performing hits.
X-Files reboot finds guest actors: Hulu’s reboot of The X-Files, from Oscar-winning Ryan Coogler, has cast several actors in guest roles. Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrand and Sofia Grace Clifton will appear alongside Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, who were previously cast as the new pair of FBI agents investigating bizarre and unexplained cases. Original X-Files creator Chris Carter is signed on as an executive producer, and Jennifer Yale is the showrunner.
Aaron Paul joins Fallout: Aaron Paul is one of the big new additions to Fallout when it returns for Season 3. No character details were revealed. Paul previously worked with Fallout creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan on Westworld’s final season.
David Koepp writing film remake of Westworld: Speaking of Westworld, David Koepp has signed on to write a remake of the original 1973 Michael Crichton film for Warner Bros. The original film starred James Brolin, Richard Benjamin, and Yul Brynner, who starred as a killer android known as The Gunslinger.
