Continuing to hold incredibly well, Michael returned to the top of the box office while Obsession had an incredibly strong debut weekend.
Michael took in another $26.1 million, dropping 31% from last weekend and taking its domestic total to $282.8 million. Worldwide, it has grossed over $706 million, making it the second-biggest movie of 2026 behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which has grossed over $964 million.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 dropped to second place with another $17.8 million, dropping 57% from last weekend. Domestically, it’s now at $175.7 million, and worldwide it’s at $545.6 million.
Obsession opened in third place with $17.1 million, just barely missing topping Devil Wears Prada.  The film only cost around $1 million to make and even with its purchase price of $14-15 million, it’s going to be a massive successful and profitable movie for Universal and Blumhouse. Worldwide, it has $24.8 million. Obsession’s opening is just behind Terrifier 3 and ahead of movies like Talk to Me and Barbarian.  The movie got an A- CinemaScore, which, for horror films, is exceptionally high and should mean strong word of mouth and a strong hold going into its second weekend.
Mortal Kombat II and The Sheep Detectives rounded out the top 5.  Mortal Kombat II had a steep drop of 65% from last weekend’s opening, indicating that it was pretty heavily front-loaded. It has $101.2 million worldwide. The Sheep Detectives, on the other hand, had a strong 37% drop and made another $9.5 million, taking it to $29.9 million domestically and $58.9 million worldwide.
Top Gun returned to the top 10, in eighth place, with $3.3 million from its 40th-anniversary screenings. The weekend’s other two new releases, In the Gray and Is God Is, barely made it into the top 10 at ninth and tenth place, respectively. In the Gray was in over 2,000 theaters and was below the opening of the disastrous Operation Fortune, which opened to only $3 million and only really topped RocknRolla, which opened to $1.7 million.
