Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.

Teacup canceled on Peacock: Peacock has canceled Teacup after one season. The horror series was inspired by Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger and followed a group of characters, led by Scott Speedman and Yvonne Strahovski, who are trapped on a remote ranch sealed by an invisible barrier that kills anyone who tries to cross it.

Frasier canceled after two seasons: Paramount+ has canceled its revival of Frasier after two seasons. CBS Studios, which produces the series, is looking to sell it to another network or streamer. Kelsey Grammer returned as Frasier Crane, returning to Boston and reuniting with his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Prime Video and Hulu have the original Frasier in their back catalog of shows, and the revival and the original series will remain on Paramount+.

David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham join Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow: Kara Zor-El’s parents have been cast for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the upcoming movie in James Gunn and Peter  Safran’s new DC Universe.  Milly Alcock was cast as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, and David Krumholtz will play her father, Zor-El, and Emily Beecham will play her mother, Alura In-Ze.  The movie is based on Tom King’s comic of the same name and will also feature Jason Momoa appearing as alien bounty hunter Lobo.  It is scheduled for a June 26th, 2026 release.

Joel McHale joins Scream 7: Joel McHale is the latest cast member to join Scream 7.  He’ll play Mark Evans, the husband to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott.  Campbell returns after being absent for 2023’s Scream VI. Courtney Cox and Mason Gooding are also returning to reprise their roles—Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp co-star.  Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream, is directing this new entry, which will be out on February 27th, 2026.

RIP Bob Uecker: Legendary baseball player and announcer Bob Uecker passed away this past week at age 90.  Uecker played for the Brewers and became their game announcer starting in 1971.  He also acted, starring on Mr. Belevedere and appearing in Major League and Major League II as well as a campaign of ads for Miller Lite.

RIP David Lynch: One-of-a-kind visionary David Lynch passed away this past week at age 78.  Lynch announced in 2024 that he had severe emphysema from a lifetime of smoking and couldn’t leave his house to direct anymore.  Lynch was famous for his dark, surreal style, creating cult hits like Blue Velvet, Dune, The Elephant Man, Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Wild at Heart, and Lost Highway.  He was also the mastermind behind Twin Peaks and its various spin-offs and continuations, including the movie Fire Walk With Me and the sequel series Twin Peaks: The Return. 

Tubi airing the Super Bowl: Tubi has quietly become one of the biggest streaming services out there, and it’s taking a massive step next month, when it will air the Super Bowl, live via a deal with Fox, of which Tubi is a subsidiary. The game will stream live on Tubi and air on Fox, NFL Network, Fox Deportes, and Telemundo. In 2024, Tubi claimed they had 97 million monthly users and 10 billion hours watched.

Faran Tahir returning to the MCU in Vision series: Appearing in the very first entry in the MCU, Iron Man, Faran Tahir is returning as Raza, leader of the terrorist group known as the 10 Rings, in the upcoming show focused on Vision.  Paul Bettany returns as Vision and picks up from the end of Wandavision where a new version of Vision was created and flew off for parts unknown.  The new series will follow this Vision as he tries to regain his humanity and memories.  James Spader will return to the MCU as Ultron in the series.  Terry Matalas, the executive producer of Star Trek: Picard, is showrunning the series.

Shout! Studios Gets Rights to Golden Princess collection: In massive news for fans of Hong Kong cinema, Shout! Studios have acquired the rights to the Golden Princess collection.  Golden Princess Amusements held the rights to classics like John Woo’s Hard Boiled and The Killer, Tsui Hark’s Peking Opera Blues, Ringo Lam’s City on Fire and Prison on Fire, and more, but they have been unavailable officially for decades, which is the reason movies like Hard Boiled were not available on streaming or getting new hi-def releases on physical media.  With this new deal, it seems like that will finally change with Shout! saying it will put out new releases and remaster movies, potentially have re-releases in theaters, and include them on their streaming platform.
