Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.
Walton Goggins is rumored to be in talks for M. Bison in Street Fighter: Walton Goggins may be in talks to join another video game property alongside Fallout, as he’s rumored to be in talks to play M. Bison in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie. Orville Peck, Eric André, Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Roman Reigns are also apparently in talks for the film. Goggins was the villain in the 2018 attempted reboot of the Tomb Raider film series.
Mass Effect series gets a showrunner: The upcoming adaptation of Mass Effect has found a showrunner in Doug Jung. Jung is an executive producer on the forthcoming Apple TV+ series, “Chief of War,” and has previously worked on “Mindhunters,” “Banshee,” and “Big Love.”
Mia Goth joins Star Wars: Starfighter: Mia Goth is going from horror to sci-fi, joining Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter. Her role is currently unknown. Shawn Levy is directing the film, which takes place five years after The Rise of Skywalker.
Tulsa King spinoff in development: The Tulsa King universe is expanding with a new series starring Samuel L. Jackson. Currently titled NOLA King, Jackson will appear in the upcoming third season of Tulsa King before the spinoff begins. Sly Stallone stars in the main series as Dwight Manfredi, who is carving out his own criminal empire in the Midwest. Dave Erickson, who currently works on Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown, will serve as showrunner, with Taylor Sheridan executive producing.
Phasmaphobia movie in development: Horror video game hit Phasmaphobia is being adapted into a film by Blumhouse. The game features four players embarking on ghost-hunting investigations and has sold over 23 million copies. There are no further details available about the movie, such as who is writing or directing it.
Nick Jonas cast as Paul Stanley for KISS biopic: Nick Jonas will play KISS lead singer Paul Stanley in an upcoming biopic about the iconic rock band. McG is directing the movie, titled Shout It Out Loud, which tells the story of the band’s formation. The production is currently looking for an actor to play Gene Simmons.
Blumhouse acquires the rights to Saw: Blumhouse acquired the rights to the Saw franchise from Twisted Pictures this week, gaining 50% ownership of the series alongside Lionsgate. This would put it back in the wheelhouse of James Wan, whose Atomic Monster production company is joined with Blumhouse. Saw XI was in development but got delayed, and there’s no word on if Blumhouse would try to pick that project back up or do something different with the franchise.
New Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movie in development: The cult favorite franchise Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is returning with a fifth movie in development, titled Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence. David Koechner, Eric Roberts, Dan Bakkedahl, and John Astin are signed on to star, with Astin reprising his role from the franchise as Dr. Gangreen. David Ferino is directing the movie, and it will pit the Killer Tomatoes against some AI technology.
Mikey Madison starring in Masque of the Red Death: Oscar winner Mikey Madison is stepping in for Sydney Sweeney to star in A24’s upcoming adaptation of The Masque of the Red Death. Based on the Edgar Allen Poe story, this new version will be “wildly revionist” and feature Madison in a dual role as twin sisters who are attending a masquerade ball at the castle of a mad prince while plauge ravages the land around it. Charlie Polinger is directing the movie.
Netflix casts Unabomber film: Netflix has found the main cast for its upcoming Unabomber thriller. Unabom will star Jacob Tremblay as Ted Kaczynski, and the movie will track him from a Harvard prodigy to the infamous domestic terrorist known as the Unabomber. Russell Crowe, Shailene Woodley, and Annabelle Wallis will co-star. Janus Metz, who most recently worked on Andor, will direct the movie.
Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg starring in new action comedy: Netflix also landed a new action comedy after a competitive bidding battle that is starring Andy Samberg and Jason Momoa. The movie is currently untitled, and no plot details are available except that it will be set in Hawaii. SNL alums John Solomon and Rob Klein are writing the script.
Carrie cast finalized: The cast has been finalized for Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s classic Carrie, now streaming on Prime Video. Summer Howell is playing Carrie White, and Samantha Sloyan, Matthew Lillard, Josie Totah, Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Siena Agudong, Amber Midthunder, Arthur Conti, and Joel Oulette will co-star. Flanagan is writing and executive producing the series and will direct several episodes.
Kit Connor in talks for lead in Elden Ring: Kit Connor is reportedly in negotiations to star in the upcoming adaptation of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, which would reunite him with director Alex Garland. Connor co-starred in Garland’s Warfare from earlier this year. Garland is writing the movie along with directing.
