Musical Montage: The Cult “Painted on My Heart”
Gone in 60 Seconds hit theaters 25 years ago today, and while Nic Cage and his heist team got psyched up with “Lowrider” by War, “Painted on My Heart” by The Cult was the single released from the movie’s soundtrack. Formed in 1987, The Cult were still rocking in 2000, having sold out a 30-date tour in the US the previous year and toured North and South America, as well as South Africa. They also had a greatest hits album Pure Cult: The Singles 1984–1995 release in November of 2000. The Cult managed to beat Aerosmith to appear on the Gone in 60 Seconds soundtrack, as Aerosmith also recorded a version of the song. In addition to appearing in the movie, the song’s melody was incorporated into the movie’s score. The Cult recorded a music video for the song, which included clips from the movie along with the band performing near some of the cars from the film, including the famous Shelby Mustang GT500 known as Eleanor.
